Breaking news just in, the deal is 99.99% confirmed that Red Bull Media House will be stepping in where Freecaster stepped out to cover the UCI DH World Cup and the World Champs in 2012. This has some very positive implications for the sport, with a brand like Red Bull behind the race coverage the quality should improve tenfold, we have heard they will be bringing 10HD cams to each race and ensuring the fans get an experience like never before. It also hints that the UCI might finally be taking the DH races seriously and is planning on putting together a fantastic 2012 race season.

With Red Bull on board the sport should grow!

On the flipside however Ray Dulieu from Freecaster has mentioned that he will most likely cancel the DH1 series he had planned for 2012. Freecaster had been very public about the new series and the split from the UCI. Although they had always said they wanted to run alongside the UCI the fact that they were no longer working together said enough. DH1 was planning 6 races for the 2012 season, the venues hadn’t totally been confirmed and now they look even more unlikely.

Lets hope the 2012 season brings great things for the fans!

Many riders were looking forward to more races over the season, but realistically the UCI was holding all the aces, and with Red Bull on board it seems likely that the coverage will be huge, and that is what the riders and teams want. Many people may view this as an attempt to block the DH1 series before it got started, and that may be the case, but even Ray admits that for the good of the sport DH1 may have served it’s purpose, pushing the UCI into getting serious about coverage for DH racing. We’ll keep an eye on how this pans out and update you as and when.
