There’s less than a month to go before the 2013 Endurance Series kicks off again after a brilliant first year of competition in 2012. Up and down the country, at some of the best mountain bike races on the calendar, the biggest names in British Endurance racing will be pushing themselves to the limit for the titles of Endurance Series Champion.

Once again the series will combine six well known mountain bike events, spanning a range of distances and durations, to produce the ultimate Mountain Bike Endurance Champions. At each event riders will be awarded points based on their final overall finishing position and the series winner will be the rider with the most points after the last race. This year that will be based on their five best performances.

There’s an overall series cash prize of £300 again for the open winners, an Endurance Series trophy, plus complimentary entry to every round the following year. Reigning champion Hanneke van der Werf (Torq Devo) will be defending her title at all rounds this year, whilst male champion Tim Dunford (Mountain Trax-Vauxhall Motors Cycling Team) will be attending just five but hoping to maintain his perfect run of podiums.

The series provides a wide variety of racing with each event offering the rider something slightly different. Details of the six events that make up the series are as follows:

24th March – Whinlatter Mountain Bike Challenge (30 mile 2 lap race)
5th May – Gorrick/Kawasaki 100 (7 lap race)
11th May – 24 & 12 Hours of Exposure (24 or 12 hour)
10th August – Brighton Big Dog (6 hour solo)
25th August – Torq In Your Sleep 12:12 (12 hour solo)
15th September – Kielder 100 (100 miles)

As always the Whinlatter Mountain Bike Challenge will let riders ease into their racing season as the shortest event of the six. Entry is open now for every race and many sell out well in advance so be sure to book a place early.

Full series guidelines are available on the official series website http://www.endurance-series.co.uk, as well individual event information, race previews, reports and the series “points table” that will be updated after every race.
