Take your brakes off and go for a spin, quite literally, as Manuel Scheidegger sends us dizzy. Try not to get too distracted by the spinning cyclist as the views and landscape are a totally stunning backdrop for this brakeless performance.
‘You always need new challenges. The pure way of cycling has always fascinated me. That means without gears and without brakes. The riding technique gains in importance and the material moves into the background. Suddenly well known trails and obstacles become new challenges and you see them with different eyes. I did not want to try the brakeless-style in the streets, but in the mountains in front of my doorstep. So I was on the road in the Bernese Oberland (Thunersee, Niederhorn and the Gantrisch area).’
‘Man braucht immer wieder neue Herausforderungen. Das pure Fahrradfahren hat mich schon immer fasziniert, also ohne Schaltung und ohne Bremsen. Die Fahrtechnik des Fahrers gewinnt an Bedeutung das Highend Material rückt in den Hintergrund. Plötzlich werden alte Trails und Hindernissen zu neuen Herausforderungen und man sieht sie mit anderen Augen. Ich wollte den Brakeless-Style aber nicht in den Strassen ausprobieren, sondern in den Bergen vor meiner Haustür. So war ich im Berner Oberland unterwegs, unter anderem am Thunersee, Niederhorn und im Gantrischgebiet.’
