Huge and deserved congratulations are in order for one of the greatest UK athletes of the modern era, Rachel Atherton, who last night walked away with BT Sport’s Action Woman of the Year 2016 award. Beating a host of Olympic and Paralympic athletes to the top spot, as well as hockey player Maddie Hinch and equestrian Charlotte Dujardin, Rachel’s triumph came after a public vote and is perhaps a reflection of the rising profile of mountain biking – particularly women’s DH riding – in the modern sporting world.

Rachel dominated the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in 2016 by winning every round in the female category, as well as taking the top spot in the UCI World Championships. A remarkable achievement!

You can watch the video of Rachel at the awards over on BT Sport here.
