We all know that MTB is an expensive sport and that kit can cost an arm and a leg if you want the very best, but how much is too much for a bike that might not even last a couple of seasons? Bike Depot Inc. have built a high-spec children’s bike with some incredible components, so is it overkill or over cool?

We have recently built one of the most impressive kid’s bikes that the internet has seen. We decided to set out and create the most trail-worthy kids mountain bike that money can buy. With a Frog lightweight 24″ frame, electronic gear shifting, and other insane components. The bike totaled more than $4500 CAD, which some would say is quite much for a 24” kids bike.

The owner of the bike is a good customer of ours, he is an avid mountain biker who own multiple bikes including various high-end ones. He came into our store looking for the best-suited kid’s bike to compare or come close to one of his bikes. We looked at our inventory and also our supplier’s inventory and couldn’t find something even close to what he was looking for. So we decided to just build it. That’s how the build came along. A father looking for a bike comparable to his for his son.

As for the build, We started with a Frog Bikes lightweight 24″ frame, the model is the Frog MTB 62. We kept the original air fork and crankset but from there the bike is completely different. Starting from the rims, we went with Stan’s tubeless Crest MK3 wheelset. the Hubs are made by Hope, and for tires, we went with the Schwalbe Rocket Rons. For the Brakes, we decided to choose the Hope Tech 3 E4 set, the Hydraulic 4 pistons brakes are a great addition. For the derailleur/shifter combo we chose Shimano XT Di2, this including all custom wiring done instore and the 1 by 11 set up.

The boy received the bike and was ecstatic, however, it looked like the dad was just as happy. This build was truly one of our craziest and most interesting, to say the least.
