Rocky Mountain at Eurobike

Rocky Mountain at Eurobike

Rocky Mountain, the brand with the best domain in the industry, http://www.bikes.com, were out in force at Eurobike as usual. There were two standout bikes on display, the all new Maiden DH rig and the Sherpa, and interesting take on the bike packing sector. What’s bike packing you may ask? We’ve featured it before here and quite a bit over recent years, but for the uninitiated, bike packing involves disappearing off the grid with your bike, and usually a bunch of gear to help you survive.

Ready for anything, the Rocky Mountain Sherpa!

Ready for anything, the Rocky Mountain Sherpa!

Obviously when you do that you don’t know what to expect or what kind of trails you might encounter, so a bike that is capable is a given. At the same time you’ll be laden with all sorts of gear so a heavy bike is out too. Rocky Mountain have the answer in the Sherpa, a 27.5+ wheeled bike with 110mm of travel at the front and 95mm of travel at the rear. They’ve coupled this platform with capable geometry that can deal with the climbs and the descents along the way.

Another new bike in the line up is the Eurobike Award winning Maiden, this thing was turning heads and messing up beds at the show and the World Cup version looked mighty!

Rocky Mountain World Cup Edition

Smooth lines and angles that are slacker than a teenagers work ethic are at play here, the bike has been in development for 4 years, yes you read that right, 4 years they have been tinkering with this beast. It features 200m of front and rear suspension and is optimised for 26 and 27.5 wheel sizes. The full carbon frame features integrated guards and protection and is Shimano Di2 compatible with a hidden storage compartment for the battery should you decide to roll that way, internal cable and brake routing keep the lines smooth and it looks sicko to the power of ten from where we were standing. That is until we stepped inside the booth…

The Maiden Unlimited

The Maiden Unlimited

Inside the booth was the Maiden Unlimited, which frankly looks like the sexiest DH bike on the planet right now, this thing could melt the polar ice caps it’s so hot right now. The huge Enduro Max bearings on the rear end add to the muscle and stance on the bike as well as providing one of the stiffest rear triangles available at the moment. Carbon rims from Reynolds are coupled with DT Swiss Hubs and a full BOS Suspension set up and SRAM X01 gearing with a Race Face SixC crank and Saint brakes from Shimano.

The headliners from last year made a good showing too with the Thunderbolt, Element and Instinct on display.

Then just as we thought things couldn’t get any better we spotted this Altitude 790 MSL Rally Edition that quite frankly took our breath away… Billed as the ultimate Enduro race machine with 160mm of front travel and 150mm of SmoothLink suspension at the rear it’s certainly in with a chance of being the bike of the show!

All in all Rocky Mountain put on an impressive display, we can’t wait to swing a leg over the new Maiden, and if the Rocky Mountain warehouse guy is reading this, stick an Altitude 790 MSL Rally Edition in the post to us, go on, be a good chap!
