About the brand

Bluegrass is a little brother from the Italian MET brand, from origin a helmet maker founded in 1987 near lake Como in Italy. The Bluegrass brand is aimed at the BMX, Enduro and Downhill market where MET is more aimed at the general cyclist and roadie, and Bluegrass offers a wide range of protection.

Although they have a helmet factory still in Italy, the pads are designed in their HQ, but produced in China. There is no mention of sustainability goals, but they do mention extensively on their quality standards and procedures, aiming for a high quality and long product life which in the end reduces waste.

The product

The Rogue Core has a sleek look, and many smart functions you would expect from a helmet in this price range. The visor is cleverly designed so you can easily store your sunglasses on them. If you prefer riding with goggles, the visor can be flipped up to quickly stow your goggles on the climbs.

The wraparound design protects the back of your head nicely, and the Fidlock magnetic buckle is super easy to do up or undo, even with a single hand.

Of course it has a system on the back of the helmet to fine tune the fit, and 16 vents keep your head cool in the heat of the moment.
There are three colorways available, we tested the small sized Metallic Red version.

Out on the trail

This helmet has a lot of adjustability options. From the straps to the inner harness, there are plenty of options to make it work for your shape of head. Even those who are rocking a ponytail will be happy. The Fidlock buckle is a personal favorite for some time now, it’s so easy to use.

With this many fit options, it comes as no surprise that it sits very solid on your head. No movement, no sagging in front of your eyes. Not even on the rockiest of trails we could get this helmet to budge. The goggle stash option is handy for those #enduro days. The sunglass ports took some time to get used to, but once turned into a habit it was a great secure way to store your sunnies when needed.

Verdict

We loved the Rogue Core. It has all the functions you’re after and with the MIPS protection system, for this price it is definitely a great deal. If the styling is to your liking and they have a color that matches your kit, definitely add it to the wish list. Great value for money.
